My first tournament – BEAST 6

03/15/2016 Leave a comment

A couple of weeks ago I had an awesome experience. In the best city of Sweden, Gothenburg. This was the first time I went to any kind of gaming event and any kind of tournament. It’s the biggest European Super Smash Bros. tournament, featuring Melee and Smash 4, as well as Project M.

I got there on Saturday due to the first day only being Project M, which I didn’t have any interest in, and pretty much no interest in now. For you who don’t know, it’s a mod of Brawl, the Wii version of Smash. Where they made it more like Melee and further how the creators and communities wanted it to be. I’m not very fond of the idea and now that I’ve tried it for the first time it really just didn’t feel right. Not because it was new to be but… I really don’t like it. It’s not a real Smash.

I decided of course to stay the night in the city. I had to sleep in a hostel. I didn’t sleep much that night, nor the night before as I had to go up really early to catch a decent train to Gothenburg from my city. But once there, I had such a great time. Shy as I am I didn’t interact with a lot of people, but I did talk to some, mostly because they approached me.

I played some so called friendlies. I forgot to mention, I didn’t enter the tournament, I only went to watch and be a part of it. To me Smash is the best gaming franchise and I think that Smash 4 (Wii U) is the best game ever. I just love it so damn much. So this had to be done and I’m so glad I did it.

It was crazy to see Armada and Leffen in real life, some of the best (if not the best when it comes to Armada) Melee players in the world. There were more big players there but none that I really hold as favorites. Though I’m a fan of iStudying now, a Greninja player who got everyone hype in the crowd.

So I sometimes watch tournaments on Twitch, but to be in the crowd was amazing. The only problem was to catch the interesting players and to choose which game to watch as they were going on at the same time up until the final. Plus all the other games going on in between the two big screens. And then of course I wanted to play with more people just for fun. And as I said, I got to do that. So much fun. I really don’t have people to play with regularly except maybe 2. Apparently though there is a small community in my city that I didn’t know about until recently. I have to get more involved with that. And I will enter my first tournament next month here in my city.

On Sunday I stayed past the end of the event. I couldn’t go home after the grand final anyway because there were no trains going home that late. So I had to stay another night, only I didn’t want to pay for another bed to sleep in. So I stayed up all night. And I actually stayed behind and helped with cleaning and packing things up. That in it’s self was a great experience. I’m glad I could help with something I’m passionate about even though I could never be a pro player.

Maybe next year I’ll enter just for fun. But it is a bit of an expensive adventure for someone living away from the big city. But I hope I can at least go, I will if nothing really stops me. And I hope it will even better and bigger, and that I can help again.

Btw, a funny side note. The amount of entrants were 666 – the number of the BEAST.

Thank you so much everyone who interacted with me and thanks a lot to everyone who made the event possible. See you at BEAST 2017!

I will have a video up soon where I show you my full experience.

Dream Journal #4

This time it was sort of like a night mare again. It didn’t start out bad. I was either in London, or in my city. In the center of town there was some event. And the famous TV chef was there, Gordon Ramsay. I like him a lot and his TV shows. I saw him in front of a crowd being part of some kind of show. I took out my video camera and recorded some.

Later some how I think I was helping carrying or moving some stuff inside a house. And Ramsay was there having a break in casual wear and a cup of tea or something. I was walking around in the same room as him and I passed him a few times. At one time I just said something like “hey I’m a big fan, can I have a photo?” and he quickly declined and looked busy. I was thinking “but it would only take a few seconds…”.

Then later I was walking among other people down a path, some people with dogs. One dog got lose and started running down the road. Quickly things got crazy where someone chased the dog and other dogs joined in and then some huge tiger started running after the dogs. It got worse and worse with people screaming and running in fear. More animals came running and it was stampede of different animals like lions and elephants and rhinos and what not.

I didn’t panic, but I was so scared. Instead of just running in a direction I watched the line of running animals and tried to stay in the middle. They got closer when I moved in the wrong direction, I stood by some metal structure. They ran really close, almost touching me, but I wasn’t harmed. Some how later I ended up in a building, it was dark and I had to sneak in order to not get attacked by… some animal.

This is as much as I can remember.

Planned Game Purchases 2016

02/12/2016 Leave a comment

I used to by one game every month for a period of time almost 10 years ago. Then I changed it to 10 games per year. Recently it’s become a lot less actually. In the last 7 years or so it’s been more purchases when I feel like it. I still have that limit of 10 games. Part of what has made it less is basically time and trying to save on money.

But there are SO many games I want, for so many systems. Luckily, there aren’t many games coming out for Wii U, and for older consoles there’s nothing new obviously. While I feel bad for Nintendo, I’m personally glad to have less games to buy. I own 12 major games for Wii U but there are still games I want for it. So it’s still too much or at least enough for me.

Anyhow, what are the games I’m planning on buying this year? If there are new games I don’t know about I’ll have to change the list. And I’m trying to keep the list small. And then we have the problem of PS4 and NX, if I buy PS4 this year or if NX is released this year. I’m gonna have to add games to the list. But for now, this is what it looks like.

Wii Sports Club already being bought. In no particular order.

  • Fire Emblem Fates
  • Kid Icarus: Uprising
  • Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
  • New Super Luigi U
  • Twilight Princess HD
  • Zelda Wii U

Kid Icarus I’m not sure about, but sense it’s a game by Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of Smash, I feel like I should have it or at least play it. I love Smash oh so much, but haven’t even tried this game nor the old one. I regret not buying NSLU earlier, since it’s not pretty rare and very expensive. I want it because I just love 2D Mario platformers. Twilight Princess and Zelda Wii U are priorities on this list. TP is one of the best games in the world and the best Zelda game for me. And to get an updated HD version is a must, another excuse to replay it and get to see Midna again, oh how I miss her. And obviously the next big Zelda game is very exciting, but we don’t know much about it, it’s still an obvious buy.

Fire Emblem Fates will be my first Fire Emblem game, if it’s better than Awakening according to people. Otherwise I’ll get that game instead. I think I’ll love it because I love Advance Wars and RPGs in general. I love the Donkey Kong Country series and Retro Studios always delivers, a must that I just haven’t gotten around getting yet.

Dream Journal #3

This night I dreamed that I had my van (which I don’t own, I don’t have a car) parked in the middle of town. You can not park there, but it’s not important to what happened. It was snow on the ground it was in the evening. For some reason I start riding my bicycle for a bit around the corner. As I do I remember that I didn’t lock the car up. So I abort my mission and head back to the car.

When I return I see a foreign man and woman stealing from my car. The back and doors on one side are open. On the ground behind the car there was something stacked up to look like a person sitting down on their knees, head down. I touch it and it just falls apart.

I see the immigrant man counting my bills in the back seat. And the woman carrying something. I made eye contact with the man and then I woke up, or stopped remembering rather. Or if the dream just ended there.

I don’t remember more than this, something else happened as I was riding my bike before I returned, I talked to some woman I think, but I don’t remember.

When I woke up I just shut my eyes to imagine what I would have done, I wouldn’t have kicked over that thing because that would have alerted them, I would have walked up like I was just another person passing by. Then I would have quickly grabbed my money and put them in my pocket. Then grabbed the guy and try to grab the woman as well, holding them down and shout for someone to please call the cops. I would have done anything to keep them there but that would be hard of they tried to run or fight of course…

Favorite Japanese Dishes

02/07/2016 Leave a comment

I can’t say I love all Japanese food. But I have a few favorites I really love. Here’s my top 5.

   1. カツ丼

Katsudon. Katsudon is pork fried with egg on rice. It’s more to it than that but it’s quite simple and cheap. But this is for sure my favorite Japanese dish. I ate it sooo much when I was in Japan. The last two weeks in Japan last time I was there, I ate it almost every day!

 2. すき焼き

Sukiyaki. Sukiyaki is a mixed stew of meat and vegetables, with tofu and mushrooms. I don’t like the mushrooms, but other than that, I love this dish. I ate it only once home cooked because it’s an expensive dish at restaurants. I usually don’t eat tofu but when it was cooked it was yummy.

 3. 牛丼

Gyūdon. Even more simple, there is this cheap dish of just rice and pork with onions. But it still tastes so good anywhere I eat it. And sometimes I like a raw egg on top. It’s one of the first things I ate in Japan and a staple of the little 24/7 restaurant Yoshinoya.

   4. ざるそば

Cold soba noodles. Obviously better in the summer, but there is also hot soba of course. I prefer soba over udon. Soba are thin buckwheat noodles. Simple and I like it with the sauce that often comes with it.

   5. ぶかっけうどん

Bukakke udon. Yes, the name might sound familiar to you, bukakke could mean something else. But I’m not sure of if the dish gave the name to the… other thing, or the other way around. Regardless, I like this a lot. It’s thick noodles in a soup with negi (leek onion) and some kind of citrus mush.

Honorable mentions: I’m not as a big fan of ramen as I thought I would be, I often eat ramen here in Sweden. The quick cheap ones you get at the store. I often eat it with little to no soup. In Japan there are many types of ramen, I still need to try more. If I had to pick one it might be tsukemen or shio-ramen.

Another thing I love to put in my mouth in Japan is nikuman, it’s not a dish but a snack. A Chinese steamed dumpling bun thing with meat inside. I love it so much.

Dream Journal #2 – Car Fire

02/07/2016 Leave a comment

There was some kind of event going on before that I can remember of the dream… I don’t know what that was. But I was walking past a parked car, I saw 3 or 3 little kids sitting in it and nobody else. And a fire in the front seat by the wheel! I screamed “fire!” and asked my father where there is a fire extinguisher, I spotted one and broke off the safety thingy, and I put out the fire as much as I could. Spraying all around the front of the car. Then I made sure the kids where ok, I didn’t bring them out of the car though. The kid in the middle seat had something on his/her face, I didn’t know if it was dirt from the smoke or burn wounds. I touched the face and said something.

That’s all I can remember from this dream.

Dream Journal #1 – Damsel In Distress

02/02/2016 Leave a comment

As you might know, we all dream every night, but we don’t always remember them. I’d like to document my dreams, should have started doing that a long time ago. It’s interesting to me in many ways. And one way of having lucid dreams is to write down your dreams and think about them, so there’s that too.

I have two dreams that I remember from last night.

First one is very simple and short. I dreamed that Akira (my cat) puked. He often pukes, this is quite normal for cats. Cats who live both inside and outside are not noticed as often of puking of course. Akira is an inside cat. Akira has a sensitive stomach. Just like me. But, he has actually not puked in over a month now. Which is a good sign. The reason must be that I’ve switched to a cat food that is suppose to be for sensitive cats. So I dreamed that this streak ended.

My second dream this night, was a bit of a nightmare. From what I remember, I was trying to rescue a girl. She had been kidnapped by some big monstrous guy. Not a realistic looking human, more like something out of a video game. I remember from the point where I had infiltrated some kind of dark place, either like a industry plant or something under ground.  I was with the girl and we were hiding from this big guy, or someone else, who with a sniper rifle of some kind were looking for us. We were laying flat on some elevated platform. Hiding. But the guy spotted her legs and shot her twice, in her legs.

Next thing I was fighting the big dude with machetes. Some how it felt like we didn’t go all in trying to kill each other. But we were swinging at and slicing one another. Bleeding. Limping. Screaming.

Then some how, it calmed down. And in a kind of tense hostage situation, we sat down at a table playing a board game or something. But we could feel the tension, that at any moment one of us could attack again. I felt that he was the one in charge, but the whole thing was like a game in the sense that he knew he was controlling the situation, but without killing us, he just played with us like dolls. Very uncomfortable.

Then I don’t remember anything else…
