Finally the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant is reported as stable

It took a long time. A bit more than 8 months. For the workers over at Japans most damaged nuclear power plant Fukushima Daiichi to make it stable. I didn’t think nor hoped it would take this long, and first it was thought to be achieved in January. But not finally we can all draw a small sigh of relief knowing that the plant is at least stable and can not get worse at this point in time. Even though 3 of the reactors reached meltdown, it never got worse. Radiation did go up but the situation is now under control.

Press is now invited to the site for the first time since the disaster. Japan has had so much courage and strength in this horrible ordeal. And the workers at the plant, all these heroes, I thank you. As the whole of Japan is. For all their work all this time. True heroes of our time, these about 5000 workers involved. Some of them died to protect their country. All the condolences to their family and friends.

About 19.000 people are considered dead by the tsunami and earthquake that struck Japan on that day, 3/11/11. It’s very hard for me to even think about or speak about this matter. Because of the sadness that fills me up. But at the same time I feel a certain shame over my pain. I am not Japanese and I was not in Japan. How much am I allowed to feel?

That will however remain as one of the worst days of my life. The worst for many many others. For weeks I did almost nothing  but read the news and watched the news and tried to gather and spread the important information. Trying to help in whatever way I could.  I learned a lot in many ways from this time. I wish I could have done so much more for this country I love.

The difficult situation due to this is far from over in Japan though. There are still a lot of economical problems. Problems with damage land and wreckage. All the people missing (3.600 out of the above number) still and the radiation problem. But as said before. The media often overreacts. And the government might hide some truth. It’s hard to know the truth but good research is important. Japan is safe. Tokyo is fine. It was always fine in the topic or radiation. As long as you don’t live very near to the plant for a long time, then you will be safe.

Radiation is everywhere. Even in your own body. Even bananas have a higher radiation count than a lot of things. Flying to Tokyo causes more radiation than being in Tokyo. So please do not fear. Japan needs tourism. They need help from the world. So please be well informed and do whatever you can to inform others and help Japan.
